There's a reason I moved... Did any of you see the news this morning? And to think at how everybody used to laugh when I told them I lived in the ghetto of Overland Park...

Man stabbed in fight at Overland Park apartment

By RICHARD ESPINOZA

The Kansas City Star

A Kansas City man was stabbed early this morning in a fight at his girlfriend's Overland Park apartment.

The 19-year-old man's injury was not life-threatening, police said. Detectives are investigating whether the woman who stabbed him was acting in self-defense.

Police said the man got into a physical fight with his girlfriend's roommate in the apartment in the 8800 block of Glenwood Court. He pushed the roommate against a wall and was holding her there when she reached over and grabbed a kitchen knife, police said. The woman stabbed the man in the right side of his lower abdomen.

The wounded man got into a car with another man and headed east until Prairie Village police stopped their car for speeding about 3 a.m. in the 7900 block of Lamar Avenue. They called an ambulance for the wounded man and then called Overland Park police to begin investigating the stabbing.

I was thinking the same thing... WHICH news?

I suppose it narrows it down if you filter out all the Missouri stuff. Although I work with a former police officer who mentioned that you hear the KC stuff more because there was some old '60's lawsuit that meant the press gets unrestricted access to KCPD's blotter. Other cities are not as open, so it is harder to report on crimes there.

Anyway... there are plenty of ghetto blips in JoCo... part of our house hunt was circling blocks to make sure there weren't stacked squalor units anywhere within walking distance. maps.google.com was also used to see if there were vacant lots that kids play in, dense townhome projects, industrial parks, etc. anywhere nearby.

Oddly, Drummel's apartment complex has gotten -really- run down... that's where the gang kids came in and beat down the partying teens with bats and even killed one. It was one of the reasons my old stomping grounds were not as favorable for this move. Sure, nothing keeps them from starting the Gardner South Side Crips, but everyone would laugh at them. At least at present.

Yeah, when I lived in Overland Park, I looked out the window one day, and saw a SWAT team in the parking lot. Hmm. So we moved to Independence, because it was safer.

Is Independence still the nationwide leader in meth lab busts?

It was when I was growing up there. ;)

Oh, it was when I was living there too, but that's been a few years now. Although where we lived was actually very calm - there are some nice places to live in Independence. :)

That there are... I was actually surprised to discover that a few years ago...

Anyhow, I thought some weird rural place in Kansas got the award for most meth lab busts this last year, but I wouldn't bet money on my memory...

I think you're right, actually - some relatively dinky little place down by the Oklahoma border.

LoL

Yeah, the only place I have seen a drug bust is in Prairie Village...

Then again, the only place I have seen a high speed chase is KC, MO...
